Greg Patterson, MD, FACS, CWS
Dr. Greg Patterson is the Medical Director of the Archbold Center
for Wound
Management and the John D. Archbold Level II Trauma Center in Thomasville,
Georgia. He is the medical team leader of a multidisciplinary wound
management team that
includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, diabetes educators,
and nutritionists. Dr.
Patterson is an active general and vascular surgeon specializing
in venous and distal
arterial reconstruction, non-invasive vascular evaluation, nutrition,
and pressure ulcers. In
addition he is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Florida State
University School of
Medicine. He is a frequent lecturer and educator on topics concerning
wound management.

Pamela Scarborough, PT, MS, CDE, CWS
Pamela Scarborough’s career spans a period of 25 years as
a clinician, team
leader, and educator. Ms. Scarborough’s experience includes
acute and long-term
care, outpatient services, home health, and practitioner education.
In addition to working
as the physical therapy supervisor for three long-term care facilities,
Ms. Scarborough travels the United States presenting continuing
education lectures,
seminars, and laboratory scenarios, in the fields of diabetes care
and wound management. Her seminars are highly regarded by medical
professionals
required to demonstrate comprehensive evaluation and treatment capabilities.

Dot Weir, RN, CWOCN, CWS
Dot Weir is a highly respected nurse and educator. She is board
certified by
the WOCN and the American Academy of Wound Management, having dedicated
the past 25 years of her career to a specialty in Wound, Ostomy
and Continence Nursing.
Currently, Dot is wound care coordinator for in-patient and out-patient
wound care services
at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, Florida. She is
listed on the founding
board of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, having
held the
offices of both Treasurer and President. In addition, Ms. Weir represents
the AAWC on the
Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders. She is a popular and knowledgeable
speaker, known for her passionate commitment to the highest standards
of patient care
and treatment.
PURPOSE
This intensive 17-hour course is designed to assist wound care professionals
in preparation for the wound management Board Certifications.
OBJECTIVES
- Identify the anatomy of the sin and other important structures.
- Differentiate the cells and tissues and their initial process
related to wound healing.
- Describe blood’s composition and its function in wound
healing.
- Describe the phases of wound healing and the associated microenvironment.
- List the processes related to wound healing.
- Describe extrinsic factors which contribute and affect wound
healing outcomes.
- Verbalize the etiologies of chronic wounds.
- Describe specific diagnostic and examination tests and measures
related to the wound assessment.
- Identify components of the wound assessment and documentation
recommendations.
- Discuss nutritional factors and the underlying deficiencies
that impact wound healing.
- Describe specific treatment interventions for chronic wounds.
- Relate the psychosocial and cognitive aspects to patient outcomes
in wound repair.
- Assess research and evidence related to wound management.
- Describe the different methods of debridement.
- Identify the methods for recognizing soft tissue and bone
infections, bioburden management and treatment of local and
systemic infections.
- Describe topical therapeutic interventions in wound management.
- Describe Complementary/Adjunctive Electrotherapeutic interventions
that facilitate wound healing.
- Identify the use of HBO therapy in chronic wound care.
- Participate in an interactive review of course content with
question and answers.
